Hervey Bay has a population of approximately 45,000 and is located 300 kilometres north of Brisbane and encompasses the coastal area north to Burrum Heads and south to River Heads. Hervey Bay includes the central suburbs of Point Vernon, Pialba, Eli Waters, Scarness, Torquay, Urraween, Kawungan, Wondunna, Urangan, and Booral. Outer suburbs include Nikenbah, Sunshine Acres, Takura, River Heads, Craignish, Dundowran Beach, Toogoom and Burrum Heads.

Hervey Bay is famous for whale watching and is the gateway to the World Heritage Listed Fraser Island. The airport has recently been upgraded to cater for interstate flights. Hervey Bay has recently been listed as one of the fastest growing areas in Australia.

Maryborough is the central city of the Wide Bay area and is approximately 270 kilometres north Brisbane. The city has a population of approximately 26,000 and is the dominant commercial centre for the surrounding Shires of Woocoo, Tiaro and the western section of Hervey Bay.

Being situated on the Mary River, the city services the surrounding area comprising the towns of Bauple, Tiaro, Poona, Tuan, Boonooroo, Maaroom, Howard, Torbanlea, Aramara and Brooweena.

Gympie is a well established provincial city within the Cooloola Shire and is situated approximately 200 kilometres north of Brisbane. Gympie is situated on the Bruce Highway, which is the major coastal highway of Queensland. The coastal townships of Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach are situated approximately 60 kilometres to the east of Gympie and the Sunshine Coast area is approximately 80 kilometres to the south east. The Cooloola Shire has a population of approximately 34,000 people.

Bundaberg is one of the major provincial cities along the Queensland coastline being approximately 380 kilometres north Brisbane. Being situated on the Burnett River it is the centre of a large irrigation area which relies on water from weirs along the Burnett River, Monduran Dam on the Kolan River and a large underground aquifer system. The area has a rich and diversified agricultural base with main crops being sugar cane, tomatoes and other small crops.

Bundaberg has a large industrial base and is the centre for a large area stretching from Childers in the south to Rules Beach in the north and west to Mt Perry and Gin Gin. It also attracts people from the Central and North Burnett areas.

The coastal stretch between the Burnett and Elliott Rivers also has a large residential area including Burnett Heads, Bargara, Innes Park, Coral Cove and Elliott Heads. This area is approximately 10 kilometres east of Bundaberg and is seeing rapid residential development with mult-storey unit complexes becoming part of the Bargara shoreline. Coral Cove has a resort style golf course and is surrounded by high quality residential development.

Childers is the centre of the Isis Shire and is situated approximately half way between Maryborough and Bundaberg. Is known for its red volcanic soil and has a diversity of agricultural pursuits including small crops, orchards and sugar cane. Childers services the outer communities of Woodgate, Buxton, Cordalba and Goodwood and is situated at the junction of the Bruce and Isis Highways.

Gin Gin is a long established rural township situated on the Bruce Highway approximately 400 kilometres north of Brisbane. The provincial city of Bundaberg is approximately 55 kilometres to the east.

Goomeri is a small country town in the South Burnett Region and is situated on the Burnett Highway approximately 75 kilometres west of Gympie. Goomeri has a gourmet cheese shop, cafes and antique stores. It is renown for its annual Pumpkin Festival and is a popular tourist destination.

Kilkivan is another small country town in the South Burnett Region and is situated on the Burnett Highway approximately 50 kilometres west of Gympie. Kilkivan has become known for its annual Great Australian Horse Ride.

Wondai is a small rural town situated in the heart of the South Burnett between Murgon and Kingaroy. It is seeing a transition into a tourist destination with local cafes, antique stores and a museum.

Mundubbera and Gayndah are situated in the North Burnett Region and are both central to a large citrus growing area.

Murgon is located approximately 280 kilometres north west of Brisbane and is one of the larger towns in the South Burnett Region. Murgon is situated in a rich agricultural area and is becoming well known for its vineyards and is attracting ever increasing tourist numbers to enjoy its wine trail.

Eidsvold is a small town on the Burnett Highway approximately 45 kilometres north of Mundubbera and is the centre of a rural area mainly centred on beef and timber.
